Privacy Policy — Scanly PDF

Last updated: October 15, 2026

Scanly PDF lets you scan documents and create, read and edit PDFs. The app works entirely on your phone: your documents are never sent to a server. This page explains what the app does with data, and above all what it does not do.

1. Your documents stay on your device

All processing happens on your phone, even without an Internet connection: scanning, cropping, filters, creating and editing PDFs, merging, splitting, compressing, Word to PDF conversion, annotations, signatures, passwords and text recognition (OCR).

Documents, scan photos, text recognized by OCR and your signature are stored only in the app's private storage, on your device. We have no access to them: they are never uploaded, copied or analyzed remotely. No account is needed.

2. What the app stores

Deleted documents go to the app's trash, where you can delete them for good. Uninstalling the app erases everything it stored. Files you exported elsewhere (Downloads, another app) stay where you put them.

3. Permissions

4. Sharing, exporting, printing

When you share, export or print a document, the app opens your device's menu. The file goes to the app or printer you choose, under your control. We receive no copy of it.

5. Advertising (Google AdMob)

To stay free, the app shows ads provided by Google AdMob: a banner on the main tabs, and a full-screen ad at the end of a task (scan saved, PDFs merged…).

To show these ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect and send to Google:

No content of your documents (pages, images, text, file names) is sent to Google or anyone else. Ads are not chosen based on your documents.

Google processes this data under its Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.

Without an Internet connection, the app works normally, without ads.

6. Your consent (GDPR)

In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, the app asks for your consent before any personalized ads, using Google's consent form. You can accept, refuse or choose in detail. If you refuse, non-personalized ads may be shown.

You can change your mind at any time: Settings → Ad privacy settings in the app. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in Android settings (Google → Ads).

7. Data sharing

We do not sell, rent or transfer any data. We have no server that would receive any. The only data sent to a third party is described in section 5, sent to Google as the ad provider. The app contains no analytics or tracking tool.

8. Security

Your documents stay in the app's private storage, which other apps cannot access. You can protect a PDF with a password (AES-256 encryption); the password is not stored anywhere.

9. Children

Scanly PDF is a general-audience tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any data about them.

10. Your rights

Since we collect no personal data, we hold no record about you. Your documents are yours, on your device: you can delete them at any time. For data processed by Google for advertising, you can exercise your rights with Google (My Ad Center) and change your consent as described in section 6.

11. Changes

This policy may be updated, for example when a new feature requires it. The date at the top of this page always shows the version in force.
